What was the highlight of your day?
October 23rd 2009 10:34
My husband and I say goodbye to each other early in the morning. Then we're off to work for 8-10 hours a day.
By the time we're together at night, we're exhausted. Too exhausted to talk sometimes, but we always make it a point to at least ask each other how our day's went.
But we're tired, remember? So instead of asking "How was your day?" and one of us goes ranting on and on and on, we just ask each other "What was the highlight of your day?"
And yes, cheesy as it is, we do say, "Seeing you again!"
So one of us always goes, "Aside from that?" And we have a good laugh and a little bit of the tiredness goes away.
Sure, we do end up telling stories about the littlest things that happened that day. But at least we got to find out what made that day special for each other.
Of course, highlight can either be a great thing ("Our storyboard got approved!") or a bad thing ("I broke a heel and the rest of my day went downhill from there.") So just brace yourself for each other's moods and answers!
Sometimes we also ask each other "What was the best thing that happened to you today?" At least that question gets a more positive answer. The positive vibe then creates a domino effect as our moods lighten and the tiredness goes away quicker.
Again one of us always answers "Seeing you again!" Cheesy I know, but it's those little sweet moments that fan the flame of marriage. (And yes, that was a cheesy line I just typed out.)
How do you stay in touch with your partner after a long and tiring day?
