The advantages of wedding notecards over guestbooks

Instead of having a guest book at our wedding, I opted to have note cards instead.
What are they?
Blank cards with cute borders. The size of calling cards. My sister designed and printed them out herself. We used hard paper in different pastel colors.
How did it work?
During the reception, my maids of honor (I didn't have bridesmaids) distributed a bunch of blank cards and pens in each table. Our reception host shared the instructions. The guests could write individual notes to us and the maids of honor would collect the cards at the end of the reception. The cards were collected in one basket. During certain parts of the reception, our host would pick a card randomly from the basket and read the note out loud.
What were the disadvantages of the cards?
Nothing really.
What were the advantages?
Each guest could write his/her own dedication. Guests usually rush their notes in guestbooks because it has to be passed on to the next guest. But with the card, they could write as much advice and greetings as they wanted to. Each card was very personal and very special.
After the wedding, I went over the cards with my husband. My favorite was a card written by my 8-year-old cousin. She wrote:
"Dear Toni and Dennis,
Happy Wedding!
I love you!
Love,
Maxine"
So cute! My grandparents shared a note card, my parents wrote individual messages, my best friends played around with it a bit... each card had its own personality and its own personal message to me and my husband. I loved them all!
Another advantage is that up to now, 5 years since that wedding, I still read those notecards. They're just tucked together in an envelope that I read from, time to time.
My aunt suggested that I place a huge fishbowl in our living room and fill it with the cards. They're great mementos from the wedding day and add to the sweet vibe at home. I haven't done it yet, but will do soon.
So think about these note cards for your own wedding too! You'll cherish the personal notes long after your wedding day, I assure you.
