My views on having an engagement party

Some good things about having an engagement party:
1. It's a great opportunity for families to come together -- perhaps even meet for the first time.
2. It's a warm and wonderful way to share the news with people you love most.
3. Another great reason to parteh!
Why I'm not really into throwing an engagement party:
1. The money for the engagement party can be used for the wedding instead.
2. If you're particularly close to your friends and family, no need for a gathering to break the news.
3. You cut out on any surprise dramas that can occur from family members. Trust me on this one.
Perhaps a simple engagement party will do, but the logical side of me is winning. The money you spend on that party will be put to better use during the wedding, maybe even for a rehearsal dinner.
